What do I need
to do now as far as guaranteeing my semen?
I cannot say if I will still have doses by July, and I shut down
shipping by July 4th. SO, you just buy it now, have it stored in
your Vet's tanks for whenever you want to use it. It is not like
cooled semen where you wait until the mare is ready to ovulate and
then do a Chinese Fire Drill.
Frozen semen can be purchased
at any time of the year. If it is “off” season, I will
store the semen here at no charge until you are ready to ship it
to your Vet.
The procedure is this:
- Choose your stallion
- Determine how many
doses you want to purchase
- Print out the contract
- Formula is # of doses
x price per dose , plus $100 preparation charge ; no deposit required
on tank
- Be sure to fill out
the second page delivery instructions and give a Fed X account
# or credit card # for the Fed X airbill.
- Send me a check,
money order, or pay thru PayPal.com the total of doses plus prep
charge.
- I will return a signed
copy of the contract for your records and deliver the shipment
at an agreed upon time.
What is the suggested
amount of doses one should purchase or does that vary by stallion?
I would think a minimum of two doses is smart. You never know what
a mare might decide to do...or maybe the Vet gets impatient, breeds
her too early thinking she is going to ovulate, so he can go home,
only to find out the next morning that she hadn't....so if you don't
have a back up dose, you are out of luck. Personally , I buy 4 doses
for every mare. If you are lucky and get your mare in foal with
one dose, I may buy the doses back from you, sell them, or trade
you - as long as I am comfortable with where the doses have been
and who has handled them.
I assume you
have to fill in your sections of the contract and send a signed
copy back to me, then I will send the money order for payment.
Is this the normal way of dealing with this?
Just fill out the # of doses you want x price per dose. The
processing fee is $100, which is added to the total of your doses
amount. I do not charge a deposit for my tank.
When you send your payment and signed contract, then I will send
you a copy for your file.
How do I get
the resulting foal registered, do you send a breeding certificate
or something like that?
You send me a copy of your mare's papers, declare which registry
you will use, and I will send a breeding/insemination certificate
along with the shipment of semen. It is your responsibility to keep
up with it, have the Vet properly fill it out and send it in to
your registry.
If you would like to
discuss the particulars of your mare, her breeding history, etc.
I would be happy to talk with you.
When you breed mare,
you will need to send me copies of their papers for proper breeding
certificates to be issued. You will have to indicate which registry
you will use, and supply me with the proper certificates that they
may require.
Do you require
immediate shipment out, or will you store it until I'm ready to
have it shipped?
I am happy to keep doses in my tanks until your Vet is ready to
receive them.
Is there a fee
for that?
no charge.
Do you have data
on first cycle conception rates for proven stallions?
Mare owners are quite remiss in reporting results to me if the mare
conceives. Seems like I only hear about the ones who DON'T ! On
this farm, we bred 32 mares last year and had a 92% conception rate.
All stallions used were stallions from my own frozen semen program.
Most of the stallions are very fertile; there is only one that is
risky with frozen. All the stallions have proven fertility , good
morphology reports and are EVA negative.
Is there a time
line that I need to breed the mare with the semen in order
to still be able to get a breeding certificate from you?
As Long as you properly document the breeding by having your Vet
sign a breeding certificate, send me a copy of the registration
papers of whichever mare you choose to breed, then I will send you
a breeding certificate.
If the semen
is sitting for a year or two would this make a difference?
No
I have 2 mares
that I may want to breed to Couleur Rubin. Do I need to fill
in the mare information sheet right now or can it wait until I am
ready to use the semen?
We are removing the Mare Information Sheet from the website. I request
only a copy of the mare’s registration papers and a signed
breeding/insemination certificate from your vet. I send the breeding/insemination
certificate WITH the shipment to your Vet’s. Please be aware
of that and MAKE SURE that your Vet signs it and gives it to you
when your mare has been bred.
Do you want
me to add the $100 processing fee to the cost of the doses
?
Yes, the $100 is due before shipping of the semen
I have read
the contract and wanted to find out if my vet breeds my mare and
finds that the semen post thaw is less then 30% motility, will you
replace the dose if mare does not conceive?
Your Vet will not find that the post thaw is less than 30 %. None
of the semen I sell is less than 40% PPM. I have morphology
reports on all collections that I receive, so I know exactly what
a certain date's semen will thaw at. If he finds less than 30%,
then something has gone wrong in the thaw process or your Vet is
looking at the semen under adverse circumstances; i.e.: too cold,
too hot, too long thawed, too soon after thaw, etc. There are many
variables to calling the post thaw motility of thawed frozen semen.
I do not guarantee pregnancies, only the quality of the semen. I
would not bring semen out of Germany that is less than 30% - has
never happened. It is just "industry standard" that 30%
is the margin. If your Vet follows the thawing protocol that
I send with the shipment, then the semen is fine, and you don’t
need to freak out. A accurate post thaw motility can only be ascertained
under the correct conditions and equipment. A cursory look at the
semen in the field cannot be deemed accurate.
I have my own
dry shipper - will that save me anything if we can use it?
If
you use your own shipper: IF it comes FULLY charged, then I will
do the paperwork , loading, consultation with your Vet, and
delivery to Fed X for $60. |
